About Android L:
Android L is the latest announcement by Google. It has a whole new range of jaw dropping features. Be it the vibrant interface, a newer version of keyboard or the easy power search option. Google is confident that this newest Avatar of android will sweep users off their feet. Google will let app developers to download this latest Android version prior to its release in the fall. This would give a tough time to its arch rival Apple.
It has also added few new word document features which were earlier available only in the Apple devices. The smarter and cooler looks are bound to attract even loyal users of other devices. Sundar Pichai, Head of Android, has claimed that it has been a breakthrough in the upgradation field of Android ever. It has been developed such that voice recognition plays a major role in the input.
Features:
Material Design - The new material design gives a look of flat and 3D. With better gradient, sharp images and smooth animation it has a more intuitive feel. It is not only limited to mobile phones. Tablets, TV screen, watches and even car will feature this design. The navigation buttons are in clean geometric shapes. The circle stands for home, triangle for back and square for recent apps.
Multitasking - File search is easier and smarter with the new 3D card style design effect. The multitasking panel also treats Chrome books and Tabs separately. The latest Android version would be much smoother than the previous versions although there might arise problems during heavy browsing. It can also be connected to the TV which would enable a better viewing experience to the users.
Low Power Consumption – This latest Android version has a new battery saving mode that can be operated manually as well as timed as per the user’s power requirements. Project Volta, a tool developed by Google, helps developers to check which app is using up the power. Hence extended battery life is ensured.
It also has a built-in power saver mode, auto brightness reduction and lowering data connectivity. This ensures that developers can produce apps that will consume minimum power. Although it does not have an extreme power saving, but it would still be an efficient version as compared to Android KitKat 4.4.
Sync with gears – Synchronization with android enabled gears like watches is the newest venture of Google. The tool will remain the same as in the previous Android Phones and Tabs. It will be supported by square and circular screens.
The watches announced so far are LG, Samsung and Moto. All the watches are water resistant. The watches are priced from £117 for Samsung Gear Live to £134 for LG G watches. Moto 360 however will not be in the market any time soon.
Notification – The user can access the entire notification panel with just one swipe. If any of the notifications is important, it can be accessed directly from the locked screen. A new feature in the latest Android version is the notification slot at the top of the screen. This enable users to view, open or remove the notifications without leaving the app they are currently using. Notifications will also be sorted automatically based on their priority to the users.

ART runtime as default – The previous versions of Android devices had Davlik as the default runtime engine. This when compared to the newer ART runtime was a much slower engine. Hence to rectify its previous drawbacks of slow runtime Android has set the better ART as the new runtime engine. Another benefit of ART is it gives a longer power backup. Hence the users need not worry about their battery running out.
Power Search – This latest Android version also has a smart feature of power search. This will enable users to directly access and open apps through Google Now directly without the user having to shuffle through a long list of similar items.
Although Google has given a sneak peek to their latest Android version, it’s not till the fall that it is to be released in the market. App developers can, get their version of Android L from 26th June in Nexus 5 and Nexus 7. This however will not be the complete version.
The above features are all that have been released till date by Google. There may be some add-on features other than that released. The upgradation for android devices will be free. However the time taken to upgrade will vary according to the handsets. For the final version to release, users will have to keep patience and hold their breath till the fall.
